Ysgol Calon Cymru awarded Centre of Excellence status by the Leadership Skills Foundation / Dyfarnwyd statws Canolfan Ragoriaeth i Ysgol Calon Cymru gan y Sefydliad Sgiliau Arweinyddiaeth

Ysgol Calon Cymru has this week been revealed as a Centre of Excellence by the Leadership Skills Foundation. The achievement marks a significant milestone for the local school, which has been working on embedding the development of these essential skills into its curriculum for 4 years.

With only 38 centres selected for the 2024-25 academic year from the 2,500 plus that the Leadership Skills Foundation works with annually; the accomplishment is testament to the work of Mr Roberts and the PE Department. Their work within the school and the community using the Level 2 Community Leadership award has resulted in lasting impact across the school and community, with 55 pupils benefiting from these opportunities so far.

Mr J Roberts said:

“The small rural community we are based in can have limited opportunities, but many go out of their way to make a difference and create their own opportunities. I look forward to what they go on to do in the next part of their journey in the wider world.”

The Centre of Excellence title was launched in 2023-24 and is presented to organisations that demonstrate a deeply held commitment to developing essential leadership skills in their learners to help them prepare for work and for life.

To be considered, centres must adhere to a comprehensive list of criteria, including: a commitment to effective leadership practices, pathways for leadership throughout the school community, fostering a positive school and community culture, implementing innovative leadership strategies and maintaining high standards of learner performance.

Richard Norman, Chief Executive for the Leadership Skills Foundation, said: “We are delighted to award Ysgol Calon Cymru with Centre of Excellence status for the coming academic year. We believe that every young person should have access to opportunities to develop the skills they need to positively influence their future and their communities.

Across the 2,500 centres we work with, Ysgol Calon Cymru offers an incredible experience for its students to develop essential leadership skills, and it is a privilege to work with them. We can’t wait to see how they continue to build on their Excellence status.”

Ysgol Calon Cymru plans to build on this work by continuing to provide the course across both campuses and continue their links in the community with sporting clubs and primary schools, plus plans to collaborate with other organisations based locally.

Mr J Roberts added:

“Over the past 4 years I have seen many pupils grow and thrive through being part of this programme. An increase in confidence in all pupils shines through across many different areas in their lives and I look forward to providing this opportunity to many pupils for year to come”

Mae Ysgol Calon Cymru yr wythnos hon wedi cael ei datgelu fel Canolfan Ragoriaeth gan y Sefydliad Sgiliau Arwain. Mae’r cyflawniad yn garreg filltir arwyddocaol i’r ysgol leol, sydd wedi bod yn gweithio ar wreiddio datblygiad y sgiliau hanfodol hyn yn ei chwricwlwm ers 4 blynedd.

Gyda dim ond 38 o ganolfannau wedi’u dewis ar gyfer blwyddyn academaidd 2024-25 o blith y 2,500 a mwy y mae’r Sefydliad Sgiliau Arwain yn gweithio gyda nhw bob blwyddyn; mae'r gamp yn dyst i waith Mr Roberts a'r Adran Addysg Gorfforol. Mae eu gwaith o fewn yr ysgol a’r gymuned gan ddefnyddio dyfarniad Arweinyddiaeth Gymunedol Lefel 2 wedi arwain at effaith barhaol ar draws yr ysgol a’r gymuned, gyda 55 o ddisgyblion wedi elwa o’r cyfleoedd hyn hyd yn hyn.

Dywedodd Mr J Roberts:

“Gall y gymuned wledig fechan yr ydym wedi’n lleoli ynddi gael cyfleoedd cyfyngedig, ond mae llawer yn mynd allan o’u ffordd i wneud gwahaniaeth a chreu eu cyfleoedd eu hunain. Edrychaf ymlaen at yr hyn y byddant yn mynd ymlaen i’w wneud yn rhan nesaf eu taith yn y byd ehangach.”

Lansiwyd teitl y Ganolfan Ragoriaeth yn 2023-24 ac fe’i cyflwynir i sefydliadau sy’n dangos ymrwymiad dwfn i ddatblygu sgiliau arwain hanfodol yn eu dysgwyr i’w helpu i baratoi ar gyfer gwaith ac ar gyfer bywyd.

Er mwyn cael eu hystyried, rhaid i ganolfannau gadw at restr gynhwysfawr o feini prawf, gan gynnwys: ymrwymiad i arferion arwain effeithiol, llwybrau ar gyfer arweinyddiaeth ledled cymuned yr ysgol, meithrin diwylliant ysgol a chymunedol cadarnhaol, gweithredu strategaethau arweinyddiaeth arloesol a chynnal safonau uchel o berfformiad dysgwyr.

Dywedodd Richard Norman, Prif Weithredwr y Sefydliad Sgiliau Arwain: “Rydym yn falch iawn o ddyfarnu statws Canolfan Ragoriaeth i Ysgol Calon Cymru ar gyfer y flwyddyn academaidd i ddod. Credwn y dylai pob person ifanc gael mynediad at gyfleoedd i ddatblygu’r sgiliau sydd eu hangen arnynt i ddylanwadu’n gadarnhaol ar eu dyfodol a’u cymunedau.

Ar draws y 2,500 o ganolfannau rydyn ni’n gweithio gyda nhw, mae Ysgol Calon Cymru yn cynnig profiad anhygoel i’w myfyrwyr i ddatblygu sgiliau arwain hanfodol, ac mae’n fraint gweithio gyda nhw. Ni allwn aros i weld sut y byddant yn parhau i adeiladu ar eu statws Rhagoriaeth.”

Mae Ysgol Calon Cymru yn bwriadu adeiladu ar y gwaith hwn drwy barhau i ddarparu’r cwrs ar draws y ddau gampws a pharhau â’u cysylltiadau yn y gymuned â chlybiau chwaraeon ac ysgolion cynradd, ynghyd â chynlluniau i gydweithio â sefydliadau eraill sydd wedi’u lleoli’n lleol.

Ychwanegodd Mr J Roberts:

“Dros y 4 blynedd diwethaf rwyf wedi gweld llawer o ddisgyblion yn tyfu ac yn ffynnu trwy fod yn rhan o’r rhaglen hon. Mae cynnydd yn hyder yr holl ddisgyblion yn disgleirio ar draws llawer o wahanol feysydd yn eu bywydau ac edrychaf ymlaen at ddarparu’r cyfle hwn i lawer o ddisgyblion am y flwyddyn i ddod.”
